Overseas Adoption Support and Information Service
Oasis is a UK based voluntary support group for people who wish to adopt, or who have already adopted, children from orphanages overseas

Margot Sunderland Seminar:

OASIS has taken far fewer bookings for the summer seminar than ever before. Some of this is no doubt due to the lack of new members. However, the seminar has been specifically organised to address the developmental and school issues of our growing children, so should appeal to our members whether they have toddlers, pre-schoolers or teenagers. We urge any of you that can make it to please come and support this event, otherwise it will run at a huge loss and OASIS will have to seriously consider the future viability of hosting these valuable seminars.

Benefits from attending the day include:

Learn how adult -child interaction dramatically affects the long-term chemical
balance and key structures in the child’s brain for better or worse.

Learn about the psychology and brain science of both lovely and painful parent- child
interaction.

Learn about the relational moments that can repair, shifting negative brain chemistry
into positive brain chemistry

Discover creative ways of working with attachment disordered children based on the
attachment research.

Learn about the psychology and neuroscience of early deprivation/loss and healing.

Take away key tools and techniques based on the latest brain science research, on
comforting, separation distress, temper tantrums, the power of play, the art of
discipline and talking about feelings.

Learn about the management of your own stress

OASIS is a national parent to parent support group for families at all stages of the inter-country adoption process. We have over 1,000 members comprised of those with adult children through to those just beginning to explore the process.

We seek to provide information based on our collective practical experience, through our website, magazine, information pack, membership directory, lending library and telephone information line. We also host seminars twice yearly where we aim to bring the best international experts on adoption related issues to our members. OASIS is run exclusively by parent volunteers, who are uniquely well placed to understand the issues members face.

OASIS was founded in 1995 in response to the lack of information available for British people wishing to consider inter-country adoption. Our basic philosophy was to provide information to enable people to adopt children who would not be placed with families within their own borders.

This philosophy continues to underpin our aims but as OASIS has developed and as our experience has grown, we are now aiming to provide broader information on all aspects of inter-country adoption. We seek to support one another from the first steps of considering adoption and throughout the years as our children grow.
